Yeeeaaahhh Sweden! Woo Hoo!

Yet another reason to love Sweden:

Parliament voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to recognise same-sex marriage, becoming the fifth country in Europe to do so.

. . .

The new law lets homosexuals wed in either a civil or religious ceremony, though individual churches can opt out.

The law was passed by 226 votes to 22 and will come into force on 1 May.

    That's a great way to pass the buck off to those individual churches. Sure points out which churches have open minds and which do not. I imagine the churches that allow gay marriage will suddenly have a run of new converts.

    It would certainly make the decision for me, if I were inclined toward that sort of thing.

    To me, that language rips the guts out of any religious argument against same sex marriage. Churches in the US love to claim that they will be jailed or shut down, and their first amendment rights taken away, if SSM were passed and they refused to participate. By adding that language, you're ending that argument before it even starts.
