If God's So Great, Why Do You Keep Losing?
Apparently because god's got a plan, and it's insane.
God is always most concerned about his people and is constantly working all things together for their good and His own glory. including, but not limited to, rape, slavery, child molestation, torture, disease and any other sort of suffering humans are capable of When we read the scriptures we see some predictable historical patterns.
First, God graciously saves and delivers his people. from the danger he placed them in Then there is a honeymoon filled with blessings. and after the new belief smell wears of . . . Then God’s people become complacent and backslide into various sins and idolatry. which god didn't see coming why? So God sends prophets to call his people back. he could have just spoken to them directly, but whatever. The prophets are killed. wait a minute. sure, the romans killed jesus, but god killed moses. So foreign enemies, drought and wicked kings etc. are sent to afflict his people. because just appearing directly in front of the people is too much to ask. After suffering, sometimes for long periods, the people cry out to God for mercy and they repent. Then God sends a savior to rescue them. The people are blessed and the cycle starts over. that's insane.
suppose you marry a person and they slide into alcoholism. maybe they always drank a little too much, but before you married them, you didn't really notice quite how bad it was. your spouse's alcoholism starts to effect your marriage and your life, and you hold an intervention. your spouse walks out and ends up homeless, still an alcoholic. eventually, life on the streets wakes your spouse up, they get into rehab and come begging to you for another chance.
if it's the first time this has happened, you might even say yes. alcoholism isn't anyone's fault, your spouse is clean and really seems to have everything under control.
what if it's the 5th time? the 20th? the 50th? would you keep doing that over and over and over again?
i didn't think so. so why does this make sense for an omniscient, omnipotent deity?
This tells us a lot about human nature and God’s providence. This pattern is most vividly on display in the book of Judges where we see a downward spiral of Israel after taking up residence in the Promised Land.

health care, mackey, conservative, liberal, deficitMoney not spent in one year rolls over to the next and grows over time. Our team members therefore spend their own health-care dollars until the annual deductible is covered (about $2,500) and the insurance plan kicks in. This creates incentives to spend the first $2,500 more carefully. Our plan's costs are much lower than typical health insurance, while providing a very high degree of worker satisfaction.
Recent scientific and medical evidence shows that a diet consisting of foods that are plant-based, nutrient dense and low-fat will help prevent and often reverse most degenerative diseases that kill us and are expensive to treat. We should be able to live largely disease-free lives until we are well into our 90s and even past 100 years of age. really? care to cite that evidence? eating at Whole foods will reverse Alzheimer's and Multiple Sclerosis and Arthritis? really? fucking really, you fucking lying prick?!

Gaddafi Is One Sly Mofo

If so, he simply notes what civilizations from the good to the bad to the ugly dress wearin' mooslins! always have understood, that their success largely hinges upon their ability to replenish that invaluable resource: people. except for old people, who are like wrinkly vampires. lazy, wrinkly vampires. For example, the ancient Romans at one point became obsessed with the idea that they weren't creating enough babies which had everything to do with their deep understanding of the writings of Adam Smith?; Joseph Stalin, hardly a pro-lifer, outlawed abortion; and the Nazis had their Lebensborn program yeah, they were just a little interested in eugenics, which requires, you know, teh bebbes. And even today governments are taking note of the problem. To name a handful, Russia, Poland, France and an Italian town are offering citizens substantial monetary incentives (i.e., cash and sometimes tax breaks) to be fruitful and multiply. Yet it isn't working -- and for good reason: a cultural problem cannot be solved with a political solution. yeah, you can't buy my uterus with a tax break. Why, even demographically correct Augustus Caesar "demographically correct"? what does that mean?, who wielded absolute power, could not remedy the birth dearth among Roman nobility. i guess his power wasn't quite so absolute, now was it?
The irony of this is that the people extinguishing themselves are leftists, people who aren't enlightened enough to understand that their "enlightened" values will die with them. people enlighted enough to understand that lots of brown babies isn't something to panic about. Whether tomorrow brings us a Chinese hegemon unlikely, a worldwide caliphate unlikely or, more likely, a bipolar or multi-polar world you mean a world the same as ours? what?, it may be a place ruled neither by the virtues of Christendom i'll be happy, anyway nor the values of those crucifying her why would you want that, Mr. Duke?. When the people who birthed political correctness disappear i'm fairly certain we're not supposed to go in the rapture, they won't be able to reproduce it any more than little baby libertines. what. the. fuck. Of course, also true is that the West's glorious triumphs, such as its unprecedented respect for human rights, would also fade into history. yes, no one will ever respect human rights again without America to give them an "attitude adjustment".
Mature racist people also do something else -- they acknowledge facts. And what bothers me about the current debate over population is the steadfast refusal to do so. there is no problem here. human beings are not dying out. as a whole, we're fine. all you're left with is the argument that certain types of humans need to be encouraged, and certain other types discouraged, and we call that racism. If you believe that man is a pox upon the planet, be forthcoming. If you think he needs to cut his numbers by 90 percent, make your case. If you want a "Planetary Regime" to control world population -- which Obama's science czar John Holdren wrote about before i was born, btw. -- stand and be counted. But, as liberal icon Daniel Patrick Moynihan once said, "You're entitled to your own opinions, but you're not entitled to your own facts." Before debating where we should go, there must be an acknowledgement of where we are. you're a racist. there we go. i acknowledged it.
When I ponder our materialism, promiscuity, frivolity and selfishness, our abortion-mill archipelago i repeat: what. the. fuck. that churns with Nazi-like efficiency, hey, you godwin'd your own article! it occurs to me that perhaps the leftists are right -- just not for the reasons they think. we're wrong even when we're right. It's not sins of our past that haunt us but those of our present, and maybe the euthanizing of Western civilization is, after all, our comeuppance. at this point, if everyone like you dies, i'm okay with western civilization dying off tomorrow.
I Have a Vagina- There Is Some Maintenance Involved
vagina, schick, bush, catholic, outrage
In case anyone missed it, I have a vagina. And labia. And a clitoris. And pubic hair. But not an appendix.
I prefer to keep my pubic hair trimmed down, though not entirely shaved. I like the way it looks, I like the way it feels, and since it's my body, I can do what I want with it. What anyone else chooses to do with their pubic hair (male of female) is entirely up to them. I can understand not wanting to discuss your own, or other people's, pubic hair, but we all have pubic hair. There's nothing dirty or vulgar about pubic hair, any more than there is something dirty or vulgar about toenails or eyelashes.
Unless you're Patrick Archbold and a group of Catholic commentors, in which case a harmless Schick ad (above) is the END OF THE WORLD. If you can't view the ad, women walk by topiaries, and as they walk by, the topiaries go from overgrown to neatly trimmed in a variety of shapes. It's not the slightest bit vulgar, and I can't believe a child would have a clue what that was about. I really can't imagine a less offensive way to promote a product designed to be used to trim pubic hair. (A product I now want, because I gotta tell you, sharp scissors have their risks.)
The UK ad is a little more suggestive, though I wouldn't consider it vulgar, and no resident of the UK would, either. (They're a little more . . . open across the Atlantic.)
Patrick, however, is left boggled.
The US version of the ad, while slightly less explicit is in the same vain. I saw this ad during prime time on a cable channel. It boggles the mind how any network would accept an ad like this during prime time, or any time for that matter. This one is called "Bushes."Women are obviously the target audience for these vulgar and disgusting ads. I highly recommend that if you are currently a Schick customer that you immediately cease purchasing their products and that you let them know why. Ads like this have no place on television. If you see one of these ads, I also suggest that you contact the network responsible and complain.
Women, and their dirty, nasty vaginas, are the target audience! Their dirty, disgusting, filthy vaginas that should never be seen or thought of. Ever!
Oh, and in the same vein.
Patty-kins channels me in the first comment: Ewwwww. Just the suggestion of those icky women's naughty parts! Yucky! Now I'll never be able to pretend my wife is the highschool quarterback tonight.
NC Sue overuses the sarcastiquotes: Our "culture" isn't very cultural at all, but crude. Yes, the ads are offensive, and yes, I will steer clear of Schick. For one thing, if it's a quality product, it can be sold without resorting to ads like this. For another, I'm simply tired of vulgarity. And finally, as you say, ads like this have absolutely NO place on prime time. Nor does nasty language or thinly veiled sex on our sitcome.
Susan doesn't use that razor. That particular razor.: This just reaffirms my decision to not have TV service. And I'm glad I don't use that razor.
Scott W apparently knows the location of the mouth of Hell: Solution to television crassness:
1. Unplug TV.
2. Load TV into suitable vehicular conveyance. a fucking car, dude?
3. Drive to mouth of Hell.
4. Drop TV in it.
5. Never look back.
Maurisa may be suffering from swine flu (because there's nothing nauseating about topiary): Ewww! I actually may not have caught onto the American version of the ad until seeing the British one. Makes my stomach churn.
Arthur may have missed the point (especially considering where cute little babies come from): We're not allowed to get pro-life ads showing cute little babies on television but they can put ads on about trimming their nether regions into heart shapes? not to belabor the point, but how on earth could i trim my labia into a heart shape? you trim the hair, dude, not the region.
I understand that some people will be offended by anything, but I would like to point out that all women have vaginas, labias and pubic hair. There is nothing offensive, vulgar or disgusting about women's (or men's) bodies, nor in the upkeep of said bodies. Morons.

It's Not Just Christians that Get Wacky About Marriage

I've written a lot about Christians in the US that feel a need to butt into other peoples' marriages.* Today, I discovered that Christians haven't cornered the market on marriage wackiness. The Israelis have, in fact, taken marriage wackiness** to a place US Christians never even dreamed of.
You see, even though 70% of Israel's Jews identify as secular, marriage between Jews is entirely in the hands of the ultraorthodox Rabinnate, who can, and do, decide who can marry and who cannot. If the Rabinnate decides that you aren't quite Jewish enough for them, or that you're marrying someone who isn't Jewish enough, you can't get married inside your own country. You have to travel to some other country to get married, which is what happens in 1 in 5 marriages in Israel. (Your marriage will be recognized once you reenter Israel.)
Israel has passed control of all matters relating to personal status – births, marriages and divorces, and deaths – to rabbis belonging to the strictest stream of Judaism, Orthodoxy.
...
Official figures show that as many as 350,000 Jews are classified by the rabbinate as having “no religion”, and are therefore unable to marry in Israel. Their only option is to wed abroad – the marriage is then recognised on their return.
...Mr Kornfeld said the rabbis’ grip on marriage has continued even though nearly 70 per cent of Israeli Jews defined themselves as secular. Even among the religious, some regard themselves as belonging to the more moderate Reform and Conservative streams of Judaism.
...
Israel’s Muslim, Christian and Druze citizens – comprising nearly a fifth of the population – have their own separate religious authorities who are given exclusive oversight of weddings.
There's no mention of what happens to atheists, agnostics and the other "others" that must live in Israel (we're everywhere), but I'm guessing the nonreligious in Israel don't generally make a lot of noise about it. There are no provisions at all for interfaith marriages.
I'm trying to imagine this, and I really can't. I think that any religious involvement in government recognized legal statuses is inappropriate at best and should be abolished. Marriage in the US should follow the model of some European countries: all officially recognized marriages are secular, performed by a Justice of the Peace. The religious can then go have a second, religious ceremony, but that ceremony has no legal meaning. This entirely separates church and state, which is a good thing.
Israel has gone entirely in the opposite direction, ceding control of a legal ceremony to religious groups, to the point where those not pleasing to said religious group must leave the country to obtain the legal advantages of marriage. What happens to those unable to afford a trip to Europe to get married? Well, you need only look at the experiences of gay couples in the US to see that. It's not pretty.
I thought the US had ceded a little too much democracy to the Christian majority, but the supposed democracy of Israel has us beat by a mile. It's not good for anyone.
*You can search by gay marriage if you haven't read my thoughts on the subject, but for the lazy, shorter me: none of your business who gets married or how they run their marriage.
**Attending the World is a proPalestinian blog, but I did find numerous confirmations of their description of Israel's marriage laws from neutral parties.
