Yeah, I'm Here
Basically, I had to make a decision between fixing my teeth and paying for my website, so I'm back on the blogger train.

ReplyDeleteMinor tangent, but it seems many of my old internet spots are being shaken up recently. This, the old slacktiverse having gone of the deep end (that one's less recent I suppose, I haven't been there in a while, but it was my portal to here, FormerCon and Ana), Ana's recent post and last but not least Spoony going down in flames fueled by what appears to be depression-induced twitter tirades.
Also, which of these profiles lets me post under my usual alias with the least amount of fuzz? My google-id tends to use my real name, and I prefer not to.

ReplyDelete@rubytea: Neither do I, so I didn't hear of it until ThatGuyWithTheGlasses posted an announcement that Spoony and TGWTG were parting ways. All very politely written, but so lacking in details that it heavily suggested something nasty. After a quick look around the internet, that does seem to be the case. It's a bit hard to reconstruct the exact timeline, never mind filter out the bias of the different posts on the subject eager to blame one side or the the other for everything.

But the two leading points I hear are Spoony allegedly misbehaving at E3, which may have caused others affiliated with TGWTG to be denied interviews with developers, and a twitter rape-joke by Spoony directed at JesuOtaku. This lead to a temporary suspension, during which Spoony continued with tirades on twitter, including on people trying to calm everyone down, which resulted in him getting fired.
I can't vouch for every detail here, but all in all it looks like a mess. The rape-joke tweet at least is real, and the anger at it from Obscurus Lupa is valid. Sadly, Spoony has frequently suffered from depression, which I think is an important contribution to perhaps not the tweet itself but probably to the outburst against people calling him on it. And LordKat apparently saying Spoony should just commit suicide isn't helping matters in the slightest.
I really hope his brother or someone can convince him to calm down and maybe seek some help. He was a legitimately funny entertainer and, when he was just being himself in his counter-monkey videos he seemed like an okay guy. But I also fear Obscurus Lupa is going to get a lot of shit from Spoony's fanbase, whom Spoony himself in his more stable days frequently told to calm the hell down already. I've already seen posts pointing at Obscurus Lupa as the evil harpy who brought up a month-old tweet to get Spoony fired. I'm hoping the moderators at her videos are standing by with the banhammers, we'll probably need them.

Well, if you really dislike Blogger, you could try wordpress.com instead. (Wordpress.org is the software site; wordpress.com is free blog hosting).

Thanks about the profile suggestions, but once I posted I saw only my first name shows up. That's fine. I think one time when I accidentally used my google account to post at Ana's site it gave my last name too, and I prefer not to do so. But it doesn't happen here, so I'm cool.

ReplyDeleteGlad I found you again. Yeah, dentistry is outrageously expensive. Even with great dental insurance, I had to put up nearly 2000 a few years ago to have my wisdom teeth out.
