NOM and Same Same Sex Marraige

nom, same sex, marriage, traditional, homosexual, gathering storm, prejean, marraige,
I'm starting to get the impression that NOM is some sort of fifth column liberal organization determined to thwart bigotry by making it look as stupid as possible.

How else does one explain the above? First we had The Gathering Storm ("the homo storm- it got me!"), then we had Carrie Prejean ("I got breast implants for Jesus!"), followed by Confused Children ("If things were different, they wouldn't be the same!") and now "please to call your Senator to let them know you oppose same same sex marraige", whatever that is.

C'mon now, NOM, how am I supposed to mock you if you won't stop mocking yourselves?

Slacktivist FTW!

fred, slacktivist, phelps, nom, gay, marriage, homophobia, homosexual, religion,
The Slacktivist came up with the best argument against "gay marriage will take away our freeeeeeedoms!" hysteria ever.

Fred Phelps*.

Yes, that Fred Phelps.

But the point here is that Fred Phelps is a free man. His only legal troubles stem from instances of direct physical assault -- not from the hateful content of his beliefs. So when the folks at NOM insist that their opposition to same-sex marriage is a matter of "religious liberty," the liberty they're talking about has to be the liberty to exceed the Fred Phelps standard -- the liberty not just to restrict membership on religious grounds, or just to preach against homosexuality as a sin, or to condemn and denounce homosexuals as people hated by God, but the liberty, apparently, to go beyond all that, beyond anything even Fred Phelps has imagined.

Fred Phelps is a free man, so if you think your freedom is going to be restricted, you must be planning to outdo Fred Phelps.

So there's the two-word answer for every Tony Perkins or James Dobson or Damon Owens who makes up some dubious claim about being persecuted or punished or threatened or jailed or whatever for their anti-gay beliefs.

"I'm a California doct-- " Fred Phelps! He's a free man. Are you worse than him? No? Then shut up, 'kay?

"I'm part of a church group in ..." Fred frikkin' Phelps, buddy. I don't wanna hear it.

"I'm a Massachu ..." Phellllps! Fred Phelps. No one is persecuting you, but your whining is giving me a headache so please just go away now, thanks.

Please feel free to use this argument- a lot. It's brilliant, it's simple and it's true.

*for those of you keeping track, the Slacktivist has now used Hitler to disprove hell and Fred Phelps to disprove gay marriage hysteria. I can't wait to see what comes next.

Nobody Is This Clueless

2m4m, nom, gallagher, maggie, beaver, teabag, teabagging, homophobia, traditional, gay, marriage,
Okay, first we had conservatives everywhere protesting . . . something with "teabagging", seemingly oblivious to the sexual reference. I say "seemingly", because once they switched from mailing actual teabags to the White House to mailing pictures of teabags, they had to have noticed what comes up in a google image search for "teabag". But, no, they're sticking with "teabagging".

Now we have Maggie Gallagher's latest NOM campaign: 2M4M. Uh, yeah.

Wtf is up with conservatives' use of sexual slang? Nobody could possibly be this clueless. Nobody. This is like McCain bitching about "beaver management": you know damn well he picked that earmark because it allowed him to use a slang term for vagina on national TV.

For a bunch of people trying shove "family values" and "morals" down our throats, conservatives sure are obsessed with slightly-off-the-norm sexual practices.

Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them

box turtle bulletin, lisa, nom, liar, traditional, marriage, gay, homosexual, homophobia, asshat
Have you seen the National Organization for Marriage's new advertising campaign? If you have, or even if you haven't you need to read this.

There's lies, and then there's the truth. NOM's ads don't fall in the latter category.

When I pointed that out to a "traditional marriage" supporter who was running the ad on her blog, this is the reply that I got:

PF,
Wow you really are not educated are you? Let me suggest that you crawl out of your little tin can there and think outside the box.

“Three claims, three lies”?

These are things that can and will happen if the gays get their way. And that is exactly what you (gays) want. To destroy christians in all area’s of life. It’s not enough for you to have your “relatioships” with same sex people, you have to call it Marriage (which is between a man and a woman only BTW). Not only that but you want to control what doctors do and force them to preform abortions even if it is against their religious convictions. Ministers/pastors will be forced to preform same sex marriages or be accused of hate crimes and discrimination.

You wasted alot of time picking through that video….FYI lots of advertisements are done through actors and actresses. That doesnt make the advertisement false.
so next time why dont you come up with something better than your little il mannered rant.

First of all, I'm not the Box Turtle Bulletin. Secondly, I couldn't even tell you what the "tin can" reference is, nor is BTB's dissection of the lies in NOM's advertising the least bit ill-mannered. Nor does Lisa provide the slightest shred of evidence for her claims, though I do believe calling the BTB "ill mannered" is certainly a case of pots, kettles, stones and glass houses. And probably a few other cliches I'm forgetting.

Feel free, but try to avoid being "ill mannered". (The actual definition of that word, not the "calling someone on their lies" usage Lisa is advocating.)
