Oh, Reverend King, You Had No Idea

Rev. King, we needed you more than we knew, and we need you still

Martin Luther King, Jr. said

"I am convinced that if we are to get on the right side of the world revolution, we as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin the shift from a thing-oriented society to a person-oriented society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered."

I can only imagine what he would have thought of today's America, but it makes me weep for us all.

  2. Depends on which day you talk to me. Though they were meeting in the middle towards the end of their lives.

  4. OK, then imagine... what would he have thought (or what do you think he would have thought) of today's America?

  5. I suspect, more than anything else, that he would think that we still have a lot of work to do.

  6. Dr King's "Beyond Vietnam" speech is my favorite of his. He calls the US the greatest purveyor of violence in the world.

I imagine if Rev. Jeremiah Wright said that today, he would not get his own day of remembrance.

  7. Good god that was a spectacular quote.

Per the straw man wielding poster above me...how in the world does that specific quote support socialism? And how does socialism relate to Stalin? Nice appeal to yourself as authority at the end by the way.

  8. Funny thing: wanting to improve the state of the world is *not* the same thing as 'suggesting' socialism... whatever that means. I don't suppose you'd care to rewrite you comment in a way that makes sense? Some context, or a connecting sentence to indicate how your remarks fit into the general flow of the conversation... anything to flesh out your thinking and show how you got from point A to point B.

I feel compelled to add: I've been Mexico, England, Scotland, France, Germany, and Australia. So what?

Did anyone check out the website of "ITS [sic] All About Jesus!!!"?

There's a lot going on there, graphically.

Comments are for you guys, not for me. Say what you will. Don't feel compelled to stay on topic, I enjoy it when comments enter Tangentville or veer off into Non Sequitur Town. Just keep it polite, okay?

I am attempting to use blogger's new comment spam feature. If you don't immediately see your comment, it is being held in spam, I will get it out next time I check the filter. Unless you are Dennis Markuze, in which case you're never seeing your comment.
