Ghandi Is Offensive

obama, ghandi, christianity, jesus, carlotta, stupid
To answer the question of just how fucking crazy Christians can get, Ghandi is now offensive. Yes, that Ghandi.

Apparently, sombody asked President Obama which person, dead or alive, he would like to have dinner with, and he answered Ghandi. “He’s somebody I find a lot of inspiration in. He inspired Dr. (Martin Luther) King. He ended up doing so much and changed the world just by the power of his ethics.”

Well, yeah, Ghandi. Okay. He might not eat much, but who doesn't want to meet Ghandi?

Apparently, people like Carlotta, for whom any answer other than Jesus is a slap to the face of Christians everywhere.
If that’s why he chose Gandhi, then what has Jesus done as far as he’s concerned? He only changed several nations of people by his mere words and miraculous wonders. He died and then raised himself from the dead! But step back Jesus because Gandhi was more impressive to Obama.

In less than a two week period, Obama has publicly embraced religious practices and/or persons who are complete contradictions to the teachings of Jesus Christ. He has made acceptable false teachers, prophets and teachings.

Okay. Just a better picture on the one who calls himself a Christian.
That's right. If you're a Christian, you can't have any respect or interest in anything or anyone other than Jesus. Einstein? Well, yeah, he discovered relativity, but fuck that shit, god made relativity! Beethoven? Wrote some good tunes, but it's god who made you capable of hearing them (and Beethoven incapable of hearing them. irony.)! Edward Jenner? Discovered vaccines, but it's god who gave you an immune system in the first place! In your face, Jenner!

I guarantee you that if Obama had chosen his mother, just for the chance to see her one more time, Carlotta would take that as evidence that Obama, muslimterrorsocialistHE'sBLACK! that he is, doesn't actually believe in heaven, because if he believed in heaven, then he could just wait until he died to see her.

Honestly, are you trying to make Christianity look bad?

Teh Interwebs- There's Criticism

atheism, atheist, christian, jesus, religion, christianity, tom estes,
Tom Estes of Hard Truth* has a little trouble with the part of Teh Interwebs I enjoy most- the interactivity. On good days, I'm funny, maybe even insightful, and get compliments. On great days, I say something that sparks a fascinating, if only tangentially related, conversation in the comments. On my off days, I say something stupid, you call me on it, we all have a little laugh and move on.

That's the internet. If you don't want to deal with criticism, don't post on the internet. Write your thoughts in your journal and hide the journal under your mattress.

Mr. Estes just can't seem to figure that out. He posts something stupid, people call him on it and he changes his comment policies. First there were the ridiculous commenting rules, which could be boiled down to "unless you plan on kissing my ass, don't comment". Then Hard Truth became an "almost atheist-free zone", a little odd for a blog devoted to "exposing the adverse effects of atheism on our world**".

Most recently, Mr. Estes posted on Lord May. If you're not familiar with Lord May, Robert May, Baron May of Oxford, simply typing "lord may" into google will give you a wealth of information, something Mr. Estes clearly didn't bother to do.

This article is about a scientist who calls himself, and not making this up, Lord May. That's right, Lord May. I guess he did it to simplify conversation. Now, when someone wants to ask him a question, their sentence can begin with their question, and his name at the same time. One could say, "lord, may I hear your ridiculous opinion on a particular matter?" See how that works? It kills two birds with one stone.

The comments to this post, of course, were hilarious, as one commentor after another excoriated Mr. Estes for his stunning inability to use google. Mr. Estes, never one to take criticism well, has gone scorched earth on the comment policy.
Here's the thing, the atheists that come here don't own this site, and it's time for them to understand that, so here is how things are going to work for a while.

My posts will no longer be enabled to receive comments.

All comments will be made in the forums.

There will be two forum pages; Christians forum topics, and atheist forum topics.
You will be free to comment in either forum, but if Christians want to comment on atheist topics, you must discuss the topics as framed by the atheist who started it. And if an atheist wants to comment on a Christian forum topic, you need to understand that all comments need to be from a Christian perspective. If an atheist wants to start a Christian topic that's fine, and vice versa, but nothing condescending, it needs to be out of genuine curiosity.

As always, no foul or hateful language of any kind will be permitted.

So, nobody gets to see Mr. Estes called on his hateful stupidity, and atheists will be forced to comment from the Christian perspective in the forums? What does that even mean? I suspect it means that unless I'm crediting Jesus with helping me find my keys this morning, I'm out.

Here's a hard truth, Mr. Estes: if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you can't handle it when someone calls you on your bullshit, don't post it on the internet. Go preach to the choir from the pulpit and soak up the sycophancy if that's what you need, but the internet is clearly not for you.

*Totally juvenile, but seriously, T.Estes of Hard Truth? Really?

**Atheism: the real reason polar bears are disappearing. What can I say? They're tasty!

Carrie Prejean v2.0*

persecution, christian, homosexual, gay, patricia mauceri, carrie prejean,
Patricia Mauceri of One Life to Live was fired from the show for refusing to say the lines she was given. Last time I checked, that is the job of an actress: saying the words written for you to say. Saying these words is not a comment on the actor's/acrtress' personal beliefs, unless you think Anthony Hopkins is pro serial murder/cannibalism.

Apparently the actress was hoping she and the writers could come to some kind of compromise with the homosexual storyline. However, that didn’t happen. Patricia is reportedly looking at her legal options to see if anything can be done.

In this day and age, it’s sad to see someone get fired for sticking to his or her beliefs. What has happened to this world?

There are really only two options for Ms. Mauceri: say the lines or don't and get fired. Those are her two options. She can't decide what lines to say or not to say. Then you'll have every actor/actress vying to write their own lines, and while that might work out well for some, I'm not seeing that as the best way to get quality entertainment. (Not that I consider soap operas to be quality entertainment, but that's a different post.) Seriously, can you imagine, for the sake of consistent example, Anthony Hopkins balking at every other line in Silence of the Lambs because he's a Christian and his character had some very unchristian sentiments to express?

Even outside of the world of entertainment, does anyone think that sort of behavior should be accommodated** in any other workplace? Should I decide which cases I will work on and which ones I won't? Should I be allowed to rewrite every other word my boss dictates for religious reasons? Christianity actually forbids charging interest- should I tell the clients that I can't type mortgages that include interest because I'm Christian, and then expect to keep my job?

I rather think not. And I don't think the writer of that article really does, either.

*hat tip to [redacted]

**edited just for you, o depressed one.

Seems Like Thought

jesus, religion, witnessing, evangelism, belief, atheism, atheist
I do enjoy "and this is why you should believe exactly what I believe" speech, because they're always so incredibly stupid. Really, really stupid.

Well I will give you some things that make Christianity different from ALL other religions, although I’m sure this is the short list. well, there's that jesus thing . . .

1. Time itself is based on Jesus Christ. What does the year 2009 AD mean? Okay, a certain dating system is based on Jesus, but that's not time. Time is not the calender. These days, educated people use BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era), not BC and AD. Also, there are lots of other calendars. You don't hear about them much in the US, but off the top of my head, the Islamic Calendar (current year: 1430 AH), the Jewish Calendar (current year: 5769) and the Chinese Calendar (current year: Ox).

2. The Christian Bible is the most widely translated and widely distributed book ever to exist. So, if the Lord of the Rings becomes the most widely translated and widely distributed book to ever exist, should i start worshipping Gandalf?

3. Some of the predictions in the Bible have already come to pass. It is apparent that others also will. lulz.

4. The Bible has several different authors from different areas and times, yet it blends perfectly. that's amazing! it's almost like later authors were familiar with earlier authors' work . . .

5. Although is has been attempted, the primary truths within any version of the Bible have not changed. i'm not even certain what this refers to. is he saying that different translations have yielded similar results? is he a King James Only advocate?

6. More and more historical accounts in the Bible have been proven to be correct. "historical accounts"? you mean like, 40 years walking across a desert i could personally hobble my way across in less than a week? or the global flood that demonstrably did not happen? i wish this guy would link something.

7. Christianity is the only religion where the ONLY requirement is to accept what God has already done. so it's unique. yippee.

8. Because acceptance is the ONLY requirement, no one has any greater access than anyone else. it's egalitarian. i repeat my sarcastic "yippee", communist!

Yeah, I'm still an atheist.
