I Love You, Cliffy B

See that? That's the new playable female character from Gears of War 3. Notice something about her? Other than her absurdly awesome hair (what conditioner do you use, and when do you find time to use it?), she is both believable as a woman and as a soldier. And she's not wearing fuck me boots, metal stripper clothes or a catsuit.

I love you, Cliffy B.

  1. Obviously it's time to upgrade my gaming consoles. I'm still on PS2 (mine) and an Xbox I inherited from my brother.

  2. There's also a brunette in the same mold, if that helps your decision making process.

  3. Are you trying to tell me this is superior to the bastion of feminism that is Bayonetta?

  10. I am partial to brunettes, but mainly... I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the fact that she's dressed like she knows what she's doing is actually sexier than short skirts, fuck-me boots, or other revealing clothing.

But then, I have a long-standing tomboy fetish, which has gotten me into trouble on more than one occasion.

  12. Michael -

don't get me wrong - i'm so excited about her being dressed like a REAL FUCKING US SOLDIER [and i know hundreds, and airpeople and sailors!] that i'm actually contemplating buy this game, and i'm not a huge video game person.

i just hate that there are almost never non-vamped-out redhead characters :)

  13. Hmm. This correlates with one of the game projects me and a friend have been working on, the main character of which is a female ex-soldier turned mercenary/assassin. She doesn't wear armour, but we've gone for a utilitarian t-shirt and sensible pants. Both of us have very strong opinions when it comes to fanservice, which can be summarised with one word: "No".

"But since I am utterly repulsed by any form of sexual attraction in myself or others, attempts to worm your way into my heat via my wrinkly undercarriage mostly tend not to work." - Yahtzee, Zero Punctuation [paraphrased from memory]

I like that Gears of War is continuing the noble tradition of featuring characters capable of wearing a car's worth of heavy metal in battle (and carrying a second car's worth in their gun).

  14. @ Denelian - Well, I'd be happy to support your quest for red-headed gaming goodness, too.

  15. hey, thanks. lol

what i do play [when i play] is World of Warcraft.

and it's... difficult, to say the least. all the armor fits everyone [who can wear it - if you can wear plate armor, etc] so THAT'S nice, if you're playing a halfling or a dwarf - but if you're female, it's the same armor, same bonuses - and almost no coverage, in most cases.

nowhere else will full-plate armor LOOK like a corset and thigh-highs. sigh...
