Cautiously Good News

Why no, I haven't learned a thing from this experience. Why do you ask?

Proving once again that intelligence isn't necessarily the best thing for a creature, my dog figured out how to synchronize pressing down on the garbage can foot pedal and sticking his head in the garbage and, as far as I can tell, ate coffee grounds.

Due to the fact that he was alternating between vomiting and diarrhea, I had to put him in the garage. Of course, he doesn't understand that the advantage to the garage is that I can open the door and hose down the floor unlike the hardwoods and rugs upstairs. He thinks I'm punishing him.

So I put myself in the garage, too. I slept on the treadmill and he slept on the floor next to me. The good news is, he managed to go all night without an accident. The bad news is he need a bath in the worst way, and the way he acts about it, you'd think we bathed him in sulfuric acid.

Anyway, I'm cranky and sore today, but, for the moment, I still have a dog.

  1. I'd have to dig around to find the actual entry, but somewhere in my parenting journal is the heartwarming story of how Firstborn did something similar with stale hydrogen peroxide. No fun, that. Glad your puppy's okay.

  2. Yes, glad puppy's okay. What a scary evening. :(

Sorry you're all sore. That's never fun. Having a puppeh is fun, though. So much love is always fun.

  3. AWWWW!!! What a cute puppy!!!! He is such a smart and cute boy!

  4. oooooooooooooooooh...

i confess that my first thought [right about the time you mentioned "garbage can"] was "*THIS!!!* THIS is why i have a pet rock!"

then i finished reading. and while that first thought is still prevalent - i am so sorry that you're sore, but damn did you just earn HUGE points for doing that for your dog! if EVERYONE treated their animals as well, i'd stop being angry at a good half the planet!

  5. Oh that sucks! I'm glad puppy is OK. My dog Otis spewed everywhere this morning. I have no idea why. Maybe he just felt like making me clean it up.

  6. Glad he's okay. Sometimes I think it would be easier to have a dumb dog but the smart ones sure can be fun when they're not getting into trouble.
