Another Day in Paradise

My xbox broke. I turned it on and got the dreaded "red ring of death".

This is my fourth xbox since the original I bought when it launched. The only good thing I can say about this is Microsoft does replace them, every one, free of charge. I don't even pay shipping to send the broken one back.

However, 3 weeks without an xbox does not a happy PF make.

  1. Ack, been there, done that.

Turn around was right quick, though. Think it took two weeks door-to-door for mine.

Supposedly, the #1 cause of this is overheating. I have a laptop cooler sitting under mine. I'm fairly certain it's a Belkin, and it plugs right into the USB port on the back. It stays on even when the Xbox is off, so it keeps cooling it.

I've also heard the fix that MS is recently doing virtually eliminates the heat problem, so hopefully you won't have this problem again.

  2. I only had it happen once so far. I got mine back within a week, well a replacement.

Sorry to hear that though, PF.

  3. i actually bought the cooler specially made for the xbox for the third xbox i had- the cooler overheated.

nasa should pay me to stay away from their facilities.

  4. In related news, I bought Ghostbusters over the weekend. Very fun game, it is like reliving my childhood, except this time I really do get to use an unlicensed nuclear accelerator.

  5. boy would my life be different if i had an unlicensed nuclear accelerator . . . of course, in that case, probably so would everyone else's.

(they say power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. me? very minimal power, 5 minutes, total corruption.)

  6. May I offer some suggestions for things you could do to ease your gaming itch during those 2-3 weeks?

You could download pirate games. (Props to Dave for finding this place.)

Or if you don't want to clutter up your hard drive, you could always come to the Kingdom of Loathing. I would give you stuff!
