Lying Liars and The Lies They Love

liar, prop 8, homophobia, homosexual, gay, marriage, mullarkey
Woe is Maureen Mullarkey, who was exposed as a bigot when the San Francisco Chronicle published her home address as a Prop 8 supporter.

Well, no, not really.

The San Francisco Chronicle didn't publish anyone's home address.

The Chronicle never printed her home address -- or the address of any donor to any political cause.

Ms. Mullarkey, an artist, did contribute $1,000 to the Prop. 8 cause.

But her political donation to a statewide initiative was public information, and available -- as are all such donations -- on the Web site of the California secretary of state. Like the Los Angeles Times, the Sacramento Bee and the Orange County Register, The Chronicle gave its readers that information. The Prop. 8 donor database, which was provided to us by the Associated Press, didn't include Prop. 8 supporters alone -- as Mullarkey strongly suggested.

Why tell the truth when a lie fits your ideology better?

  1. I don't know if Mullarkey is a Christian, so this might not apply. But isn't lying like this "Bearing false witness against [her] neighbour"?

  2. It's exactly what it is. They do this all the time, the Prop 8 crowd. They're claiming that the UN will force us to have gay marriage- without bothering to tell anyone that a UN resolution has all the force of a wet noodle.

  3. Sounds like Mullarkey is dishing out a bunch of malarkey.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :-) Good blog, by the way.

  4. I wanted to say that and couldn't remember how to spell "malarkey". (Since I make fun of others' spelling . . .)

Her name just begs for that.

  5. Wait, the Jeffrey Mark who wrote that book? If so, WOW!
